- Are Fundamental in nature by taking a strict separation from the world and any church not associated with the Independent Baptist name.
- Interpret the scripture literally. They claim to interpret based on the historical-grammatical context, but if a literal interpretation “makes good sense then that is the understanding they take from Scripture.
- Are conservative in their world view. Their women often wear gender specific clothing and below-knee-length skirts, and the men wear collared shirts.

- Will often only use only the King James Version of the Bible.

- The priesthood of believers. This means that each christian has the ability to interact with God on his or her own without the need of a priest or pastor.
- Separation of church and state. IFB churches believe that no one has authority over the church except Jesus Christ. The IFB rejects any governmental authority over the operation of the church.
