What is Soul Winning?

Soul winning is process when a christian attempts to convert a non believer to be a believer in Jesus Christ. The term soul winning is very biblical and can be found in the book of  Proverbs 11:30 (KJV) which state: The fruit of the righteous is a tree of life; and he that winneth souls is wise.

Soul winning is the great commission given by our Lord Jesus Christ when he said in Mark 16:15 (KJV) : “Go ye into all the world, and preach the gospel to every creature”.

There are many ways of doing soul winning and there essentially this task is supposed to be carried out by the church. However, it is very difficult to find soul winning churches in the UK or even worldwide as many churches do not now prioritise winning souls instead they are generally mere focused on getting church attendees.

Door to Door Soul Winning: The process requires Christians to knock on the doors of private dwellings, Whether it be houses or apartments. A christian should introduce themselves by name, state where they are from and specificity the purpose of their visit.

Example: Hello my name is John Doe. I am from an organisation called Free Gospel Tracts and I am in the area preaching the Gospel of Jesus Christ.

A good question to ask people that I often find creates an opportunity for me to be able to present the Gospel is this:

“Can i just ask are you a Christian at all? (if they say yes or no follow up the question with this question) Well, more importantly than being a Christian, Can I ask you, If you were to die today, do you know where you will spend eternity? (Depending on their answer, you can begin presenting the gospel) You know the bible says in John 3:16 ….

Street Preaching: This type of soul winning is reserved for the bravest and most Spirit Filled Men as it requires standing on the high streets and proclaiming the Gospel loudly to people in the vicinity of his voice. Street preaching is not for the fainthearted as it usually attracts anger as people do not want to be told that they are sinners heading to hell without Jesus Christ.

This type of soul winning is very biblical as you will often find the apostles doing this in the book of Acts.

Gospel Tracts Distribution:

Gospel tracts distribution is a form of soul winning that simply requires posting tracts through doors or handing them out to individuals in the public arena.

There are some who argue that people cannot be saved with this type of soul winning as the bible commands us to “preach” which requires opening our mouth. It also states in 1 Corinthians 1:21:  For after that in the wisdom of God the world by wisdom knew not God, it pleased God by the foolishness of preaching to save them that believe.

Whatever your stance on this topic, it cannot be disputed that that Word of God has power and at the very least it is a way of sowing a seed in the hearts of the readers of the tracts.
